Because the book tour brought Mr. Kinney to Towne Book Center of
Collegeville, the book store owner P.K. Sindwani generously chose Holy Cross
as the school to receive the author’s visit. The assembly was organized by
Holy Cross librarian Laura Hritz.
Mr. Kinney described, to the students, his dream to become a cartoonist. He
held various jobs
while he attempted to get his comic strips syndicated. He said, he “started
playing with a style that mixed cartoons and ‘traditional’ writing, and
that’s how ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ was born.” It took about 8 years to write
his first book about Greg Heffley.
Jeff Kinney told the Holy Cross students that it takes 10 years to become an
expert at something. He encouraged the kids to find what you want to do and
start to become an expert now! “Be lucky like me, and let your dream fly!”
