Schwenksville, PA (August 5, 2016) – Seniors are invited to attend a Senior Social offered by Pennypacker Mills on Wednesday, September 7th, Thursday, September 8th, or Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 1:00pm each afternoon, to enjoy a lively program about the Civil War.
“Emergency Men” were called upon to defend Pennsylvania during the Gettysburg Campaign of the Civil War. One of those brave men was twenty-year old Samuel Pennypacker. Hear more about the experiences of young Pennypacker in the war as his unit engaged Confederates streaming toward Gettysburg. See his haversack and personal possessions that were brought home with him as mementos of this life-changing experience. Then, meet a Civil War reenactor who will speak about life during the Civil War. Whether military or civilian, these reenactors share passionate stories of life on the battlefield and at home.
Assisted living, senior centers, groups of friends, and individuals are welcome to attend this program. Light refreshments will be served. The fee is $3 per person. Please contact the site at 610-287-9349 to preregister and select the preferred date. Seniors are welcome to stay afterward for a guided tour of the Pennypacker mansion and the new exhibit on the legacy of Samuel Pennypacker, located in the Galleries on the second floor.
Please note in the registration if handicapped drop-off nearer to the Mansion is required.
Please note that the Route 73 Bridge over the Perkiomen Creek near the site entrance is closed. There is a short detour to Route 73 to reach the site; follow the signs.
